Wheatgrass is catching on as a nutritional powerhouse, but most people don’t realize, it’s been catching on for several millennia!
Ancient Egyptians, Persians and Indigenous cultures were using wheatgrass shoots over 5000 years ago. More recently, Wheatgrass was “rediscovered” in the 1930’s by an agricultural chemist named Charles F. Schnabel. His experiment consisted of feeding fresh wheatgrass to some very sick chickens. The chickens not only recovered, but started producing double the amount of eggs than healthy hens.
Today, wheatgrass is consumed as a “living juice” or as a powder. We recommend the juice. It’s filled with antioxidants, vitamins A, C, E, K, and B6, minerals such as iron, calcium, and magnesium. Phytonutrients, 17 amino acids, and loaded with protein, this stuff is incredible. Now here’s what we think is the best part; wheatgrass is up to 70% chlorophyll! Chlorophyll acts as a natural blood purifier. Wheatgrass works to reduce inflammation, acts as an antibiotic and helps stabilize blood sugar levels. A lab study in 2010 showed wheatgrass increased cognitive function and may actually ward off and treat Alzheimer’s disease.
