What do you mean you don’t like Green Kale?

We ask this question on a regular basis at the shop.

New customers walk in for the first time asking about microgreens, wondering what they are and what they’re used for. We explain that they’re the healthy middle growth between a sprout and the regular plants. Vegetables, herbs and some specialty plants are all included. We start off easy with showing them Broccoli, then Kale, and then the statement comes up, nine times out of ten, “Oh, I don’t like Kale!”

Us: Really? You don’t like Kale? Have you tried Kale microgreens?

Customer: Kale microgreens?

Us: Sure! Try this.

And we give them a sample to taste. Now, to be fair, there are a few that genuinely don’t like the taste of Kale, but what we usually find is that people don’t mind the taste, but rather the texture is what they hate.

As a microgreen, Kale is sweet and tender, incredibly nutritious and not that dry fibrous stuff you’re probably thinking of.

We grow three different varieties of Kale, and Green Kale is a top seller.
Nutritionally, Green Kale has 4 times the calcium of spinach, and it’s loaded with anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatories. Kale helps to activate detoxifying enzymes in the liver, and protects against macular degeneration. Kale is high in protein and phytonutrients. It’s high in fiber, vitamins A, C, K, B6, thiamine, riboflavin, potassium, magnesium, phosphorous, manganese, copper, iron and folic acid. This stuff exudes health!!!

Now, like any food we consume, there are risks if we eat too much, and kale is no different. Kale counteracts Warfarin, so older adults using Warfarin to reduce blood clotting should be careful of the amount of kale they consume. Eating large amounts of kale can potentially cause gas and bloating, so it’s best not to overindulge.

And that’s why we strongly recommend Green Kale microgreens. It’s tasty, nutritious, and you get all the benefits in a small daily amount.
